The Flying Wallendas are stunt performers, known for highwire acts without a net.
After returning to the high wire at Shrine Circus in Detriot on Jan. 31, 1962, Herman and Gunther Wallenda smile as they are embraced by another famed aerialist, Gene Mendez, 29, who appeared with them. The two Wallendas, Gunther, left, and Herman, right, father and son, were members of aerialist troupe which toppled in an accident while forming a âHuman Pyramidâ at the circus last night. Two of their seven member troupe fell to their deaths. Another was critically injured, three others hurt.
